Thixo-Coat™ — Heavy-Duty Corrosion Barrier Coating

Thixo-Coat™ is a thixotropic surface protectant that applies as a gel, flows into seams and crevices under its own weight, then sets up as a durable, long-lasting barrier. The ultimate protection for the hidden areas where corrosion hits hardest.

The Seam & Crevice Specialist That Defies Gravity

Most corrosion starts in places you can’t see — inside body seams, frame joints, box sections, door sills, and overlapping panels. These are the areas where spray-applied coatings can’t reach and moisture gets trapped. Thixo-Coat™ solves this with thixotropic technology: it’s thick enough to stay put on vertical surfaces, yet flows like a liquid into tight gaps and confined spaces when agitated during application.

Thixotropic flow behavior — Thixo-Coat™ thins under shear (during application) to penetrate tight spaces, then thickens at rest to stay in place. It won’t drip off vertical surfaces or run out of seams once applied.
Self-leveling in confined spaces — Inside box sections, door cavities, and frame rails, Thixo-Coat™ distributes itself evenly — filling voids and coating interior surfaces that no spray can reach.
Long-term barrier protection — Once set, Thixo-Coat™ forms a durable, flexible barrier that seals metal from moisture, salt, and oxygen. It remains flexible through temperature extremes and doesn’t crack or shrink over time.

How Thixotropic Technology Works

A unique material behavior that makes Thixo-Coat™ the ideal corrosion protectant for hidden and hard-to-reach areas.

Shear-Thinning Behavior

Thixotropic materials have a unique property: they become less viscous (thinner) when force is applied. During application — whether by brush, injection, or squeeze — Thixo-Coat™ flows easily into the tightest spaces. Once the force stops, it returns to its gel-like state.

Vertical Surface Retention

Unlike fluid coatings that sag and run, Thixo-Coat™ clings to vertical and overhead surfaces without dripping. This makes it ideal for rocker panels, A/B/C pillars, door sills, and the undersides of frame crossmembers where gravity works against conventional coatings.

Corrosion Barrier Formation

Once at rest, Thixo-Coat™ sets up as a continuous, void-free barrier that isolates the metal surface from moisture, oxygen, and salt — the three elements required for corrosion. The coating remains flexible to accommodate thermal expansion and vibration without cracking.

How to Use Thixo-Coat™

Where to Apply

Thixo-Coat™ is specifically designed for areas that spray coatings cannot adequately protect:

  • Body seams and joints: Where panels overlap and moisture gets trapped
  • Box sections: Inside frame rails, rocker panels, and structural members
  • Door cavities: The inner surfaces of doors, tailgates, and hoods
  • Frame joints: Where crossmembers meet frame rails
  • A/B/C pillars: The structural columns that are prone to interior rust-out
  • Suspension mounting points: Where brackets and hardware create crevices
  • Weld seams: Along welded joints where heat-affected zones are corrosion-prone

Surface Preparation

For best results, pre-wash with Salts Gone® to remove embedded salt. If rust is present, apply Rusts Gone™ first and allow to fully cure (24 hours). The surface should be clean and dry before applying Thixo-Coat™.

Application Methods

  • Brush or dauber: For accessible seams, joints, and edges. Work the product into the gap or crevice.
  • Injection wand: For enclosed cavities like door interiors and box sections. Insert the wand through existing drain holes or access points and inject product into the cavity.
  • Caulk gun / cartridge: For continuous seam application along body joints and weld lines.

Coverage and Cure

Apply a consistent bead or layer — coverage depends on the gap width and cavity size. Thixo-Coat™ will self-level within enclosed spaces. Allow 24–48 hours for initial set at 70°F. Full cure develops over 7 days. The product remains flexible and does not fully harden, maintaining its ability to absorb vibration and thermal movement.

Compatibility

Thixo-Coat™ is compatible with Under Gone™ rubberized undercoating, Rusts Gone™ converted surfaces, most automotive primers and paints, and bare or treated metal. It can be overcoated with Under Gone™ for combined seam and surface protection.

Protect the Places You Can’t See

The areas you can’t reach are the areas corrosion attacks first. Thixo-Coat™ gets there before rust does.

What Our Customers Say

Trusted by boaters, drivers, fleet operators, and homeowners across the country.

This is a must have if you live in the rust belt. I use it on my truck and tractor. It's amazing stuff.

As a coastal homeowner, we are finally able to efficiently protect our property from the corrosive environment around us.

I have been using Salts Gone on my boat and jet ski now for 2 years. Best product I have ever used. Way better than the competitors.

We use Salts Gone on our plow trucks after each snow event and are very happy with the results! Clean trucks with no salt residue left behind.

Best salt fighting product on the market. Honest advertisements unlike the competitor.

What a shocking experience! My pickup is not only showing no signs of salt, it is cleaner than it was before!

Common Questions About Thixo-Coat™

Everything you need to know about our thixotropic seam and crevice protectant.

Thixotropic describes a material that becomes thinner (less viscous) when force is applied and thicker when at rest. Think of it like ketchup — it stays in the bottle until you shake it. Thixo-Coat™ flows easily during application but sets up firm once in place. This lets it penetrate tight spaces while staying put on vertical surfaces.
Under Gone™ is a rubberized spray coating for broad, accessible surfaces like undercarriages and wheel wells. Thixo-Coat™ is a gel-consistency product designed for seams, joints, cavities, and enclosed spaces where spray coatings can’t reach. They’re designed to work together — Thixo-Coat™ handles the hidden areas, Under Gone™ covers the exposed surfaces.
For best results, treat existing rust with Rusts Gone™ first to convert it into a stable surface. Thixo-Coat™ can be applied over light surface rust in a pinch, but heavily rusted surfaces should be converted first for maximum adhesion and long-term protection.
Use an injection wand inserted through existing drain holes or access points. Inject the product into the cavity and it will self-level to coat interior surfaces. For door panels, access through the drain holes at the bottom of the door. For box-section frame rails, drill a small access hole, inject, then plug the hole.
Thixo-Coat™ sets up firm but remains semi-flexible. It never becomes brittle or rock-hard. This is by design — the flexibility allows it to move with the vehicle’s body as it flexes, vibrates, and expands/contracts with temperature changes without cracking or losing adhesion.
Yes. Once set, Thixo-Coat™ can be overcoated with Under Gone™, most automotive primers and paints, or industrial coatings. For seam applications that will be visible, you can topcoat for a finished appearance. For hidden cavity applications, no topcoat is necessary.
In enclosed cavities and protected areas, Thixo-Coat™ provides multi-season protection. Exposed applications may need periodic inspection and touch-up depending on environmental severity. The product is easily reapplied — new product bonds to existing Thixo-Coat™ without stripping.
